Department of Inland, Fisheries and Wildlife
Tim Peabody serves as Acting Commissioner for Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, overseeing the Department’s statewide efforts related to fish and wildlife conservation, outdoor recreation, public access, law enforcement, education, and natural resource stewardship. Tim began his career with the Department in 1983 as a Maine Game Warden. Over the course of more than two decades with the Maine Warden Service, he served in a variety of leadership roles, including Game Warden Investigator and Sergeant, before ultimately serving as Colonel and Chief Warden for the final six years of his tenure prior to retiring from the Warden Service in 2004. Following his retirement from the Department, Tim spent ten years at Unity College, where he served as Associate Professor in the Conservation Law Program and later as Director of the Center for Natural Resource Management and Protection. Tim returned to MDIFW in 2015 when he was appointed Deputy Commissioner. In that role, he worked closely with Department leadership and staff on agency operations, legislative initiatives, policy development, budgeting, personnel oversight, and coordination with partner organizations, stakeholders, and other state agencies.
